Sodexo Environmental Services Department team at Lucile Packard's Children Hospital supports Sodexo Have A Safe Day campaign

At the Sodexo Environmental Services department at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, we put employees, patients and visitors at the heart of everything we do.

Safety is a priority in the department as we want our patients and colleagues to feel safe and confident when they come to the hospital. The team supports Sodexo's  Have A Safe Day campaign which was lauched last spring to drive safety culture and change behaviors http://sodexoinsights.com/safety-first-no-really/. We had also celebrated Zero October http://sodexoinsights.com/news_releases/sodexo-launches-zero-october-increase-safety-facilitate-zero-harm-culture/, a month-long initiatives during the month of October dedicated to facilitate a zero-harm culture. The initiative was supported by Sodexo’s ongoing Have A Safe Day program, which encourages employees at all levels to have conversations about safety

For the month of December, in our continuous effort in creating a zero harm mindset, the team continues their pledge. The management team lead by Andrew Rich, Director of Environmental Services department and Diego Cagigao, Operations Manager, introduced 3 checks for Safety via video and training during the daily huddle.

What is 3 Checks to Safety?

Before starting a job, stop and think:
1) Do you know how to do the job?
      2) Do you have the correct equipment?
 3)  Is your environment safe?

And finally, speak up. If the answer is “no” to any of the checks, share your concern with your colleagues and supervisor, so that a solution can be found.

Sodexo Food Services team at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital celebrated Halloween with a Superhero Lego theme

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford hosts their annual “Trick-Or-Treat Trail” for their patients and family members.  This event never ceases to amaze and “wow” the children with four floors of endless fun and costumed participants.

Excited for the upcoming event, we, the Sodexo Food Services team at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, planned out our Superhero Lego theme.  Our team illuminated the wall with bright Lego décor and a photo booth!  Our “Legoland” theme was often referred to as “Best of the Show.”  Hundreds of patients, siblings, parents, nurses, physicians and support staff took pictures at our Superhero Lego photo booth.

We support our hospital staff day in and day out, but to put smiles and excitement on our patients’ faces, this day, warmed our hearts enough to keep us going until next year!

Thank you to the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Food and Nutrition team. Thank you for putting patients and residents at the heart of everything we do. You are our Superhero!

Happy Diwali to all who is celebrating the festivity!

Diwali, the festival of light, is one of the most significant holidays for the Hindu, Sikhs and Jains community.  The event theme is triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. This year it falls on October 30 although it was celebrated on October 29 by many in the United States.

It also happened to be one of my favorite holidays growing up in Malaysia. My childhood memory of the festival begins with the clay lamps. I was mesmerized by the small clay lamps filled with oil that are lit in all Hindu households. The small clay lamps signify the triumph of good over evil, and the lights are kept on during the night. I remember asking my mom’s permission to do the same in our household. Unfortunately, I was being turned down due to fire hazard. In recent years many households switched to the electric version.

Homes are also cleaned prior to the festival to welcome the goddess of Lakshmi and the smell of food and cookies fill the entire household. Paper lanterns and incredible Rangooli (A design on the floor made from colored rice and powder) are used to decorate the household and shopping malls. Rangoli is used as a joyful way to welcome the Goddness of Wealth and Prosperity. Hindu women will adorn their beautiful saris (a traditional Hindu dress), colorful bangles and earrings and Men will wear dhoti (sarong wrapped around the waist and leg) with an oxford shirt.

The Sodexo team at Stanford Health Care would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone who celebrates the festivity a Happy Diwali! Namaste!
